al-yawm

اليوم means both "the day" and "today". These are the words that place an action in time without giving a clock reading.تعني «اليوم» اليومَ الحاضرَ واليومَ عمومًا، وهذه كلماتُ تحديدِ الزمن.

Using it الاستعمال

Today is Wednesday.اليومُ هو الأربعاء.
Today I have four lessons.اليومَ عندي أربعةُ دروس.
Yesterday I went to the market.أمسِ ذهبتُ إلى السوق.
I am doing my homework now.أقومُ بواجباتي الآن.
I will finish it later.سأنهيهِ لاحقًا.

Tense signal

أمس pulls the sentence into the past (ذهبتُ), غدًا pushes it into the future (سأذهب). The time word tells you which verb form to use.كلمةُ الزمن تحدد صيغةَ الفعل: أمسِ ← الماضي، غدًا ← المستقبل.
