الصفات

aṣ-ṣifāt

Two rules govern every Arabic adjective: it comes AFTER the noun, and it copies the noun — gender, number and the definite article.قاعدتان: الصفة تأتي بعد الموصوف، وتطابقه في التعريف والتذكير والعدد.

Rule one — order

English says "healthy food"; Arabic says "food healthy" — طعامٌ صحيٌّ. The adjective always follows.الصفة بعد الموصوف دائمًا: طعامٌ صحيٌّ.

Rule two — matching المطابقة

Arabic English What matched
طعامٌ صحيٌّ healthy food both indefinite, both masculine
الطعامُ الصحيُّ the healthy food both definite
وجبةٌ صحيةٌ a healthy meal both feminine
الوجبةُ الصحيةُ the healthy meal both definite, both feminine
رحلةٌ طويلةٌ a long journey both feminine
The giveaway

If the noun has الـ the adjective needs الـ too. Forgetting the second الـ is the single most common slip in the writing paper.إذا عُرِّف الموصوف عُرِّفت الصفة؛ ونسيان ذلك أكثر الأخطاء شيوعًا.
