الصفات والتطابق

aṣ-ṣifāt wat-taṭābuq

The adjective follows the noun and copies it — gender, number, and the definite article.الصفة تتبع الموصوف وتطابقه في التعريف والتذكير والعدد.

Rule one — order

English says "a foreign language"; Arabic says "language foreign" — لغةٌ أجنبية. The adjective always comes second.الصفة بعد الموصوف دائمًا.

Rule two — it copies the noun المطابقة

Arabic English What matched
بلدٌ جميل a beautiful country both indefinite, masculine
البلدُ الجميل the beautiful country both definite
لغةٌ أجنبية a foreign language both feminine
اللغةُ الأجنبية the foreign language both definite, feminine
عاداتٌ مختلفة different customs plural of things → feminine singular
أصدقائي مصريون my friends are Egyptian plural of people → real plural
The commonest slip

If the noun has الـ, the adjective needs الـ too. اللغة أجنبية means "the language IS foreign" — a different sentence.إذا عُرِّف الموصوف عُرِّفت الصفة، وإلا صارت جملةً خبرية.
