A public service as much as a place. From the root د ر س, the same as درس and مدرّس.من الجذر «د ر س»، ومنه «درس» و«مدرّس».

Spotting the root

The م at the front and the three root letters د ر س give you "the place where studying happens". The pattern مَفْعَلة names places.وزن «مَفْعَلة» يدل على المكان: مدرسة، مكتبة، مطبخ.
